FAQ

FENCES PROPERTIES

Our fences are designed and built to specifically meet the breakability and radio-transparency requirements required by both civil (ICAO, FAA, EASA, ENAC, etc.) and military (USAF, RAF, Luftwaffe, etc.) airport authorities. They comply with ICAO Annex 14 and Aerodrome Design Manual Part 6 specifications. Moreover, thanks to the composite materials they are made of, they are durable, resistant to corrosion, wind (even in the presence of Jet Blast), and even very aggressive atmospheric agents.
In the airport environment, a fence is defined “frangible” when, in the unfortunate event that an aircraft impacts against it, it is able to break or deform in a programmed way in order to reduce both direct damage to the aircraft and the probability of causing deviations to its flight path. It is a fundamental requirement established by ICAO (Annex 14 and Aerodrome Design Manual Part 6) for some specific areas of some airports.

Currently, there is no Body or Institution entitled to issue specific certifications about frangibility of airport fences. To fill this regulatory gap and ensure maximum safety and compatibility with current directives, we have carried out an in-depth experimental and numerical simulation study, unique worldwide, on the behavior of our fences in the event of impact with various types of aircraft. A fence is radiotransparent when, thanks to the intrinsic characteristics of the construction material, it does not hinder the propagation of the radio signal, a fundamental aspect in the airport sector to significantly eliminate or mitigate any interference with the delicate radio navigation instruments.

Yes, our fences have a specific radio-transparency certification, issued by an independent laboratory. To receive it, write to us at info@fibrefence.it

They are made of GRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer), a composite material with excellent mechanical and chemical properties, resistant to corrosion, durable, and free of any maintenance, as well as having perfect chemical-physical characteristics to guarantee the best standards of frangibility and radiotransparency.
Our GRP fences are resistant to the actions of UV rays and the color remains unchanged over time, thanks to the intrinsic characteristics of the composite material, to specific UV-Absorber additives incorporated into the resin, to the high quality of the raw materials used as well as to specific design and production precautions of all the components used.
NO! FibreFENCE GRP fences are made of glass fiber that does not conduct electricity, therefore they are electrically insulating and do not require grounding.
NO! The composite material of which they are made allows the fence to resist to corrosion deriving from external agents (chemical or atmospheric, such as salt carried by the wind) and therefore to remain unchanged over time without the need for any maintenance, even in particularly adverse climate areas.
All FibreFENCE fences are custom designed according to the specific needs of the client, therefore there are no standard dimensions. The total height of about 2.5m for the fences has been frequently requested (also compliant with ENAC Sheet 7). There is no standard length as it is directly linked to the conformation of each individual airport.
In principle, the MESH and RAILING fences can be made in one piece up to 6m high, while the GRATING fence can reach 4m in height.

GATES PROPERTIES

Gates are designed and built to meet three specific requirements in the airport environment: frangibility (in compliance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 14 and Aerodrome Design Manual Part 6), radio-transparency, and the crash-gate function, individually or combined with each other, as often happens. In addition, they are light, durable, resistant to corrosion, wind and even very aggressive atmospheric agents, thanks to the composite materials with which they are made.
In the airport environment, a gate is defined “frangible” when, in the unfortunate event that an aircraft impacts against it, the gate is able to break or deform in a programmed way in order to reduce both direct damage to the aircraft and the probability of causing deviations to the trajectory flight of the same. It is a fundamental requirement established by ICAO (Annex 14 and Aerodrome Design Manual Part 6) for some specific areas of some airports.
It is radiotransparent when, thanks to the intrinsic characteristics of the construction material, it does not hinder the propagation of the radio signal, a fundamental aspect in the airport sector to significantly eliminate or mitigate any interference with the delicate radio navigation instruments.
In the event of an accident, every second is precious: when an access gate is not guarded, remotely controlled and / or far from the control devices, it is important to guarantee immediate access. The crash-gate is designed and built to be knocked down by emergency vehicles even if closed, without causing damage to the vehicles and minimizing intervention times in unmanned areas of the airport.

YES! FibreFENCE gates are CE marked and compliant with UNIEN 13241- class 5 wind resistance.

PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY

The fences and gates are made of fiberglass profiles and mesh produced through pultrusion technology, a continuous process of producing preforms in fiberglass and thermosetting resins which makes them comparable to steel for the levels of tensile and flexural strength.
Yes, FibreFENCE products can meet different application needs, depending on the different intersection of the fibers and type of resins used.

SUSTAINABILITY

FibreFENCE GRP fences and gates are 100% recyclable.
FibreFENCE pursues energy saving policies, as manufacturing process requires less resources compared to other constructions materials, CO2 footprint is considerably reduced and transport and handling expenses are even lower.

FibreFENCE designs and manufactures its own fences and gates in full compliance with current compliance regulations. The certifications obtained testify our desire to be in line with the most up-to-date national and international specifications on quality and sustainability. (CERTIFICATION)

for the user

YES! Installation is very simple and absolutely similar to any twine netting fence. Furthermore, thanks to the lightness of the materials used, no lifting equipment is required, further helping to speed up installation. Where necessary, in-line and / or perpendicular braces are installed to improve overall strength.
NO! No special tools or knowledge are required, installation is extremely simple and within everyone’s reach.
FibreFENCE GRP fences are made of glass fiber which does not conduct electricity, therefore they are electrically insulating and do not require grounding.
NO! The use of self-tapping screws could damage the profiles fibers, reducing their strength and durability drastically. For the couplings it is advisable to pre-drill the profiles where necessary and use appropriately sized screws or bolts/nuts. Alternatively, and with appropriate caution, self-drilling screws can be used.
Yes, our GRP fences are resistant to atmospheric agents and corrosion that can derive from the saltiness carried by the wind and therefore are ideal for fencing landing strips near the sea.
